HbA1c shows your average blood sugar over the past two to three months. A single fasting sugar test shows only one moment, while HbA1c gives a wider picture.
Doctors use it to screen for diabetes and to check how well diabetes is controlled. You do not need to fast for this test.
Your doctor will tell you what target is right for you, because it depends on your age and health conditions.
